The American Institute of Architects in New Mexico recently awarded the Wa-Di Housing at Santo Domingo Pueblo project with its 2018 Distinguished Architecture Citation. Atkin Olshin Schade’s design of the 41 one- and two-story units is specific to the Kewa Pueblo (the traditional name of Santo Domingo) and respects the tribe’s historical preference for density and shared community spaces.

MFA provided more than $11 million in funding for the project through its Low Income Housing Tax Credit program and the Housing Trust Fund. AOS worked closely with the Santo Domingo Tribal Housing Authority and the people of the Kewa Pueblo throughout the design process.

Wa-Di is home to households with incomes lower than 60 percent of the area median income, and helps address a severe housing shortage on the pueblo.
